Cool.  Lots of intriguing titles there!  I look forward to reading the winners in the journal.

I'm curious how many entries there were.  Do the finalists represent the top ten percent, five percent, or...?

I hope to have the announcement sometime next week.  I'll update this thread as soon as I have everything in hand, and a newsletter will be heading out.

Looks like I'll have everything from Mr. Butler in the next couple of days.  I'll post the winning names this weekend.

I just registered and am not sure what I'm doing ... learning my way around this forum. Just got a letter saying my work, "Blocked," is a finalist and they want to publish it at the online journal. I'm honored. Not sure of the best way to do this, but I'd like to link to my blog, so here goes: http://wwwpenandpalette-susancushman.blogspot.com/ I hope someone will let me know if that didn't work! You can email me at susanmaryecushman@yahoo.com.

I'm looking forward to seeing who the three winners are, and to reading the journal. Good luck to everyone!

Doesn't posting a list of finalists compromise the integrity of anonymous judging? R.O. Butler can easily connect title of work he's reading to name of finalist, through this list.

Just a thought.

Well, he actually has selected the winners.  What I'm waiting on are for all of the materials to be returned, as well as any special instructions and notes that he may have or wish me to forward on to others.  But his final decision was made around the same time the finalist list was posted.

So I'm waiting on a big box of manuscripts and marching orders and letters from him.  He's not much of an email person.

Also -- a quick clarification on working with our literary journal at www.sfwp.org:  You'll be working with Cate McGowan, who edits the journal, and we won't be able to publish your entire entry as is.

Please review the submission guidelines:  www.sfwp.org/submissions.php

Note that you are not required to submit your entry.  If you have a shorter work, then feel free to send that in.

Cate is the final word on what shows up at sfwp.org.

I didn't realize Cate might shorten our work before publishing it in the journal. Will there be a line indicating that the work has been shortened?

Cate won't be shortening or excerpting your work.  We're asking the authors to submit the work to sfwp.org themselves, if they are interested in doing so.

I've posted some FAQ's right here:

After I received your letter about being a finalist, I emailed Cate to let her know I was interested in having my essay published in the journal. I didn't realize I also needed to "submit" it to the journal. I suppose I'll hear back from her?.....

Oh, yes.  If you've contacted Cate, then the ball is rolling.  She'll get back to you with details.

By "submit," I mean that we will not be using the hardcopy entry. We'll need a new, electronic version for posting at sfwp.org. I'm addressing your concern about the work being shortened.
