Audible Moments of Joy

By Shishira Philip

A word from my mouth has the sound of a pearl dropping into the ocean of a fingernail gently playing the tines of a kalimba

of a vinyl record scratching its way to the beginning of a song

of a voice crooning I’ll be seeing you / in all the old familiar places at a smoky bar of a size 8 ½ sole stepping on fallen leaves

of a ring clattering on marble flooring of a church whose walls echo

of a sharp breath of someone who has stepped out into five inches of snow

Every word from my mouth sounds like something you’d write.
