Rebirth
By Babatunde Adesokan
After the night rain tore the skin
off the city, an early sunshine
dances in with a new morning.
It labels everything that was scattered.
It brightens all that was broken.
I drive into the morning cloud thinking
of rebirth. Petrichor smells like orgasm,
its burdens dried-
its pleasure minted into newness.
Forget about inflation.
Forget about unemployment.
Forget about this nation's debt.
I am a new lotus lapping sunlight,
glowing off its dirty pond.
I bolt through the city, a rainbow
seeking light for its polychrome verses.
A treasured flower basking in radiance.
I am indeed an absolution from my Lord.
Waja'alna siraajan wah hajaan
